Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad is an integrated rural and urban development unit of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur which is a branch centre of the Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and revised according to West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961 bearing Registration No.1917/3 of 1909-10 dated 4th May 1909.
The Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad has been engaged in rural development and upliftment of rural disadvantaged communities for the last six decades, in the spirit of Swami Vivekananda, the great prophet of modern India and his Guru Sri Ramakrishna. The avowed objective of the Parishad is the empowerment of the people in general, poor downtrodden, un-reached in particular through health, education, economic and environmental development. Lord Sri Ramakrishna Preached that the suffering humanity should be served as divine beings which is the motto of Parishad also. Thus Parishad has been striving for decades for the promotion of self-reliance, education and empowerment of rural people in the spirit ‘Service to man is Service to God’.
The Parishad in its endeavour mobilizes local youth clubs, equips them with knowledge and skill builds up a network of local organization to launch different programmes based on local needs and resources etc. beginning with Adult Education and Mother and Child Development Programme. It has branched off to a host of other development initiatives viz. Education in its forms like Non-formal Education, Vocational and Technical Education, Community Health, Water and Sanitation in rural areas, Animal Resource Development, Forest Management, Jan Sikshan Sansthan and Disaster Management in an integrated way spread over 12 districts of West Bengal.
The Parishad also give service to mankind by providing relief to the people in distress during disasters caused by flood, cyclone and other natural hazards and help people to return to normal life quickly. Lokasiksha Parishad is engaged in providing education to the Children who are underprivileged and living in remote inaccessible villages, vocational and technical educational to rural unemployed youths and help them to stand on their own feet either by self-employment or as an employee and live a decent living.
The Parishad also aims at elevating the social and economic condition of the rural poor by taking various development activities through its number of affiliated village level organizations. These village level club organizations are again clubbed together under their respective cluster organization for monitoring the development activities being implemented through the affiliated club organizations.
